Herbert Harris (Service No 3340), was born in Dapto, N.S.W.

At enlistment, he was single, 40 years old, worked as a dairy farmer and had been a member of the Dapto Rifle Club for 15 years.

Herbert embarked on HMAT A29 Suevic, with 19th Battalion, 7th Reinforcement, on 20th December 1915. He arrived in Egypt, and was transferred to 4th Battalion, on 14th February 1916. Herbert arrived in France on 30th March 1916, and saw service on the Western Front with the 4th Battalion. He has no wounding recorded on file, but had numerous admissions to hospital due to illness. Herbert was returned to Australia in May 1919, and discharged on 27th August 1919.

Herbert returned to the farm, and he was a member, and President, of the Dapto Agricultural Bureau.

Herbert did not marry. 

He died in Wollongong, N.S.W., in 1939.

Herbert is commemorated for his service on the Dapto War Memorial, Dapto, N.S.W.
