Charles McLean Dawson (Service No 6764), was born in Wollongong, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was single, 23 years old and worked as a butcher. Charles embarked from Melbourne, with 8th Field Ambulance, Section A. On arrival in Egypt, he was transferred to 1st Field Butchery, on 12th March 1916.

Charles arrived in France, on 30th March 1916, and served on the Western Front with the Butchery Unit. On 1st May 1916, he was promoted to Corporal, and on 21st October 1918, promoted to Sergeant. Charles returned to Australia in May 1919, and was discharged on 14th June 1919.

In 1921, Charles married Enid Ford, in Wollongong, N.S.W.

Charles died in 1977 and he is commemorated for his servcie on the Balgownie War Memorial & the Balgownie Presbyterian Church Honour Roll.

Charles' brothers William Dawson (Service No 6708) and James Dawson (Service No 4651), also served.
