John Watts (Service no 2704) was born in London in 1893.  At the time of enlistment John was single, 22 years of age, employed as a labourer and resided in Corrimal, NSW.  He had previously served 3 years with the Essex Special Reserve.

John embarked on HMAT A54 - Runic with the 2nd Battalion, 8th Reinforcements on 9 August 1915.  He arrived on Gallipoli, Turkey on 3 October 1915.

On 12 May 1916, John was transferred to the 57th Battalion, C Company and went to France with them on 23 June 1916.

John survived the Battle of Fromelle but was injured on 24 November 1916 and evacuated to England for treatment for a fractured arm.

John returned to his unit on 14 March 1917.

John's service was interrupted in 1917 when he underwent disciplinary proceedings.

John was returned to Australia in August 1919 and discharged on 15 November 1919.

He is remembered on the Corrimal Roll of Honor.
