William Thompson (Service no 911) was born in Newcastle, England in 1884.

At the time of enlistment William was single, 30 years of age, employed as a fitter's assistant and resided in Woonona, NSW.

William embarked on HMAT A23 - Suffolk with the 2nd Battalion, H Company on 18 October 1914.  He arrived in Egypt in early December and was with the first day landing troops at Gallipoli, Turkey.

At some time between the 25 and 30 April William was wounded in action.  He was evacuated to hospital in Egypt for treatment of a bullet wound to his left leg.

William was considered unfit for further active service and was repatriated to Australia in August 1915. 

William received further treatment in Australia and was discharged as medically unfit on 21 April 1916.
