Thomas Marks (Service No 881) was born in Sydney in March 1885.

At enlistment Thomas was single, 29 years old, worked as a grocer and lived in Wollongong, N.S.W.; he had served previously with the militia.

Thomas embarked from Sydney on HMAT A9 Shropshire with 1st Light Horse Regiment, 4th Reinforcement on 17th March 1915.  The troops arrived in Egypt and Thomas was eventually sent on to Gallipoli, arriving on 28th August 1915.

He was admitted to hospital on Gallipoli on 25th October 1915 but returned to duty on 28th October.

Thomas saw service in Egypt and the Middle East and was detached to Brigade Headquarters on 11th May until 26th August 1916.

He was returned to Australia in March 1919 and discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 20th June 1919.

He returned to his father's grocery shop for a while and then worked as a cordial maker with his brother in law.

Thomas died in 1942.
