Richard Gibbs (Service No 4503) was born in Dorset, England in 1880 and was baptised on 5th September 1880.  He made his way to Australia some time before enlisting in 1915.

At enlistment Richard was single, 35 years old, worked as a labourer and lived at Coledale, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A62 Wandilla with 4th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement on 3rd February 1916. 

He arrived in Egypt on 7th March 1916 and was sent on to France with 4th Battalion on 4th April 1916. 

Richard saw service on the Western Front until he was returned to Australia in June 1919.  He was discharged from the AIF on 5th September 1919.

Richard died in Sydney in 1949.
