George Lightfoot
George Lightfoot was born in Lithgow, N.S.W.
George was single, 23 years old, worked as a labourer and lived at Helensburgh, N.S.W. when he enlisted. He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A20 Hororata with 34th battalion, D Company, on 2nd May 1916. The troops arrived in England on 23rd June 1916 and George joined D Company in France on 21st November 1916.
George saw service on the Western Front until 11th August 1917 when he was wounded in action. He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left arm. The injury was serious and he was repatriated to Australia in November 1917.
George was discharged from the AIF on 6th February 1918.
In 1922 he married Doris Long. On 29th March 1924 he married Ida Dennett.
George died in Newcastle in 1959.
