George William Hatch (Service No 2810), was born in Newcastle, N.S.W., in 1884.

In 1907, he married Ethel Spinks, and when he embarked on HMAT Beltana, he left Ethel and his 6 children, in Helensburgh, N.S.W. 

At enlistment he was 33 years old, worked as a miner and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.

George embarked on HMAT A72 Beltana, with 35th Battalion, 6th Reinforcement, on 25th November 1916.

He arrived in England, on 29th January 1917, and joined 3rd Battalion, in France, on 10th June 1917. George sustained a severe clavicle fracture, on 10th September 1917, and was evacuated to England for treatment. In January 1918, he was repatriated to Australia, due to his shoulder continuing to dislocate.

George was discharged medically unfit, on 4th April 1918. He returned to the mines in Helensburgh, N.S.W., as a mine deputy.

George died in 1961, and his ashes were interred at Woronora Memorial Park, Sutherland, N.S.W.
