Roy Charles Lane
Roy Lane (Service No 228) was born in Bellambi, NSW around 1889.
At enlistment Roy was single, 24 years old, worked as a drainer, and lived in Canterbury, Sydney; Roy had served with the St George Rifles. He embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A24 Benalla with Divisional Train, No 1 Company on 19th October 1914.
After arriving in Egypt he was sent to Gallipoli and arrived on 25th April working on the beach under heavy fire unloading supplies for the troops. After the evacuation of Gallipoli Roy was sent to France on 1st April 1916 and saw service on the Western Front attached to various units for Supply.
Roy was sent back to Australia for Special 1914 Leave on 24th September 1918. He was discharged from the AIF on 23rd January 1919.
Roy received a welcome home from the citizens of Corrimal in mid-December and soon after married Dulcie Munro at Canterbury in 1918 and the couple had 5 children.
Roy married Gladys Hunt in Bulli, NSW in 1939.
Roy died in Gymea in 1975.
