Alfred Barnsley (Service No 29046)  was born in Bulli, N.S.W. around 1892.

At enlistment Alfred was single, 23 years old, employed as a clerk, and lived in Kogarah, Sydney.  Soon after enlisting, on 6th November 1915, he married Ellen Claydon.

Alfred embarked from Sydney on HMAT A60 Aeneas as Quartermaster Sergeant with 116th Howitzer Brigade on 30th September 1916. The troops arrived in England on 19th November 1916 and Alfred was sent on to France on 8th January 1917.

He saw service on the Western Front as the Quartermaster Sergeant with 3rd Division Artillery.

He was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 10th August 1919.

Alfred was listed on the electoral roll at Warringah, Sydney in 1937.
