Joseph Allan (Service No 478) was born in Port Kembla, N.S.W. around 1889.

At enlistment, Joseph was single, 25 years old and worked as a labourer.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A31 Ajana with C Squadron, 7th Light Horse Regiment on 19th December 1914.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 1st February 1915. Joseph was sent to Gallipoli on 15th May 1915 and served until he was wounded in action on 27th August 1915 and was evacuated to hospital in Egypt for treatment of serious bomb wounds to his left hand and arm.

He was deemed unfit for further active service and returned to Australia in September 1915.  Joseph received further treatment in Australia and was discharged medically unfit on 11th April 1916 and granted a pension.

Joseph died in 1960 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery, N.S.W.
