Richard John Unwin (Service No 2094) was born in Shellharbour, N.S.W. 

At enlistment, he was single, 30 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Otford, N.S.W. He was re-attested on 3rd February 1917, and embarked on RMS Karmala, with December 1916 Reinforcement.  

He arrived in Egypt on 3rd March 1917, and joined 12th Light Horse Regiment, C Squadron, on 2nd May 1917. Richard saw service in Egypt and the Middle East. He was admitted to hospital, due to illness, in early October. 

Richard returned to Australia, in September 1919, and was discharged on 31st October 1919.

In 1919, he married Elizabeth Clifford, at Cessnock, N.S.W. and they had 3 children. After the war, Richard worked for the Department of Main Roads.

Richard died suddenly in 1944, aged 59 years.
