Albert Edward Davenport (Service No 4750) was born in Macclesfield, England about 1898, arriving in Australia, in 1909.

At enlistment, he was single, 18 years old, worked as a labourer and lived in Helensburgh, N.S.W.

Albert embarked on HMAT A40 Ceramic, with 18th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement, on 13th April 1916. He joined 18th Battalion, A Company, in France, on 14th September 1916.  On 7th November 1916, Albert was admitted to hospital, due to illness, and spent most of 1917 serving in England.

Albert returned to his unit in Belgium, on 9th October 1917. The battalion served at the Battle of Amiens, and was instrumental in the seizure of Mont St Quentin, on 31st August 1918. On 3rd October 1918, Albert was wounded in action.

On 8th September 1918, Albert was promoted to Lance Corporal, and on 4th October 1918, he was promoted to Corporal.

Albert returned to Australia, in June 1919, and discharged on 22nd September 1919.

His brother, John Davenport, served with 20th Battalion, and returned to Australia at the same time as Albert.

In 1922, he married Ethel Taylor, at Waverley, N.S.W., and they had 6 children.

Albert died in Wollongong, N.S.W., in 1986.
