John Donachie Young (Service No 7579) was born in Ayrshire, Scotland around 1885.  He had served 2 years in the Territorials before coming to Australia.

In 1914 he married Isabella Crompton in Sydney.

At enlistment John was 32 years old, worked as a shunter, and lived at Scarborough, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A14 Euripides with 25th Reinforcements, 3rd Battalion, on 31st October 1917.  He arrived in England on 26th December 1917 and joined 3rd Battalion in France on 25th April 1918.

John saw service on the Western Front and returned to Australia in July 1919 and  was discharged on 2nd October 1919.

John died in Sutherland, N.S.W. in 1963.
