Austin Noble (Service No 3495) was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England and emigrated  to Australia.

On 1st November 1913 he married Lilian Phillips in Wollongong, N.S.W. and they went on to raise 6 children.

At enlistment, Austin was 29 years old, worked as a miner, and lived at Corrimal.

He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A68 Anchises with 9th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion, on 24th January 1917.  The troops arrived in England on 27th March 1917 and Austin joined 45th Battalion in France on 6th August 1917.

He saw service on the Western Front but was admitted to hospital sick where it was found he was deaf.

He was returned to Australia in March 1918 and discharged medically unfit due to deafness in both ears on 13th July 1918.

Austin died at Corrimal in 1959.
