Robert Montgomery
Robert Montgomery (Service No 6124) was born in Durham, England around 1879.
At enlistment Robert was married, 37 years of age, lived at Bulli, N.S.W. with his wife Emma, and worked as a miner.
He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A11 Ascanius with 17th Reinforcements, 18th Battalion, on 25th October 1916. The troops arrived in England on 28th December 1916 and Robert joined 18th Battalion in France on 9th April 1917.
Robert saw service on the Western Front until he was wounded in action on 3rd May 1917 at Bullecourt and evacuated to England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left thigh. He returned to France on 20th October 1917.
In early 1919 he served in France with the Graves Registration unit.
Robert returned to Australia in June 1919 and was discharged.
