Reuben Polglase was born in Bourke, N.S.W.

Reuben appears to have enlisted twice; on 11th September 1914 (Service No 898) when he was 21 years old, single, and employed as a cleaner.  At this time he embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A38 Ulysses with H Company, 13th Battalion, on 22nd December 1914.  His papers indicate service in 1914, however in 1915, Reuben is back in Bulli, N.S.W.

Reuben then re-enlisted on 16th November 1915 (Service No 5863), when he was 22 years of age, single and working as a railway employee.

On 12th February 1916, before embarking, Reuben married Doris Fairley at Woonona, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on HMAT A40 Ceramic on 7th October 1916 and arrived in England on 21st November 1916.

He joined 18th battalion in France on 10th February 1917 but on 31st May 1917 transferred to 13th Battalion and went on to serve on the Western Front with them.

Reuben appears to have been a member of 13th Battalion band.

He was returned to Australia in May 1919 and discharged on 8th August 1919.

On 17th August 1946 Reuben married again, to Susan Outch, at Glebe, in inner Sydney.

Reuben died in Sydney in 1971.

His brother Emanuel also served.
