Maud Bradford was born in Queensland, one of 11 children.

Maud was a nurse at the Coast Hospital, Randwick, N.S.W. for some time before she enlisted.

When Maud enlisted in Perth, W.A. she was single and 34 years of age.  Maud nominated her sister, Mrs Brown, of Unanderra, N.S.W. as her next of kin.

Maude embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A67 Orsova with the First Australian General Hospital Special Reinforcements on 12th November 1915 as a staff nurse.  She arrived in Egypt on 9th December 1915 and began nursing service in hospitals in Egypt, England and France and on 12th July 1916 she sailed for service in India.

Maud arrived in London on 21st February 1917 and on 22nd January 1918 went to France for service with 2nd Australian General Hospital.

On 1st October 1918 she was promoted to Sister.

Maud returned to Australia still on duty in late 1919 and was discharged medically unfit on 9th March 1920.

During her long service she was admitted to hospital on numerous occasions due to various illnesses.  The long hours of work put in by nurses and looking after the soldiers with contagious diseases made the nurses vulnerable to many illnesses.

Maud never married.  She died in Sydney in 1968, and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.
