Joseph Harris (Service No 6073) was born in Dapto, NSW about 1890. There is no information available about his early life and his mother is unknown. At the time of enlistment, he was a single 26 year old milk carter.
Joseph embarked on HMAT A11 Ascanius with 17th Reinforcements 17th Battalion on 25th October, 1916.
Joseph arrived in England on 28th December,1916 and joined his unit in France on 9th May 1917. He saw service on the Western Front until 20th September, 1917 when he was killed in action.
Joseph has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres Belgium.
Joseph had a sister, Alma who he named in his will.

We remain proud of our brave great uncle and his ultimate sacrifice whilst serving in 17 Battalion with Lt John Lacey MC MM.
