Gordon Lindsey (Service No 5150) was born in Gundagai, N.S.W. in August 1896.  He attended Dapto and Port Kembla Public schools as a child. 

Gordon enlisted at the age of 19 when the Waratah March came through the Wollongong district, and visited Port Kembla where he was living.  Gordon was single and employed as a motor driver, and had previously served in the Cadets and 37th infantry Militia.

He embarked from Sydney on board SS Makarini with 16th Reinforcements on 1st April 1916.  The troops arrived in Egypt on 2nd May 1916 and Gordon was sent on to France, arriving on 17th May 1916.  He joined B Company, 1st Battalion, in France on 12th June 1916.

Gordon served on the Western Front until he was wounded in action at Pozieres on 22nd July 1916.  He was evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his back and arm, and was able to rejoin his unit on 1st December 1916.

Gordon went on to fight in Belgium and was killed in action at Passchendaele on 3rd October 1917.

There is no known grave for Gordon; he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium.
