Robert Jones (Service No 204) was born in Kiama, NSW about 1888. At the time of enlistment he was a single 26 year old quarryman, who had served 3 years in 2nd Infantry Regiment.

Robert embarked on HMAT A14 Euripides with G Company 4th Battalion on 20th October, 1914. He arrived in Egypt and after training went to Gallipoli landing on 25th April. Robert survived the early fighting, but on 14th May,1915 was wounded in action. He was evacuated to hospital in Egypt and then went to England for treatment of gun shot wounds to his right arm. Robert returned to Egypt on 31st August, 1915 and back to Gallipoli on 17th October, where he remained until the evacuation.

On 12th November, 1915 Robert was promoted to Lance Corporal in the field. On 17th February 1916 he was transferred to 56th Battalion and on 18th February, promoted to Corporal and Lance Sergeant. He arrived in France on 29th June 1916 as Lance Sergeant with 56th Battalion.The 56th Battalion took part in the battle for Fromelles and Robert survived that terrible night of 19/20 July. He was killed soon after, still in the Fromelles area on 2nd August, 1916.

Robert is buried in Y Farm Military Cemetery, Bois-Grenier, France: Row F, Grave 3.
