Leslie Wilson (Service No 2944) was born in Sheffield, Tasmania.

When Leslie enlisted at the age of 23, his family had moved to the Illawarra, N.S.W.  Leslie was single, worked as a grocer and lived at Woonona, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A8 Argyllshire with 9th Reinforcements, 2nd Battalion on 30th September 1915.  

Leslie was sent to France from Egypt, arriving on 28th March 1916.  In June that year Leslie was admitted to hospital twice, on 15 June to 14th General Hospital, Wimereux, with dermatitis, and on 22 June to Chatham Military Hospital with scabies.  He returned to his unit in France on 5th October 1916.

On 9th April 1917 Leslie was promoted to Lance Corporal.

On 7th May 1917, while serving on the front lines with 13 Platoon, D Company, Leslie was injured by a shell explosion while moving from one shell hole to another.  He was evacuated to Kitchener Military Hospital, Sussex, England for treatment of multiple gun shot wounds to his buttocks and legs.  Leslie did not recover from his wounds and died on 31 May.

He was buried with full Military Honours in Brighton Borough Cemetery, Sussex, England; Row ZIF Grave 99.
