Frederick John Kelly
Frederick Kelly (Service No 3176) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. around 1895. The family left the area and settled in the Richmond River area in northern N.S.W.
Frederick enlisted at the age of 21 when he was single and worked as a driver; he had served 6 months with the Militia.
He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A72 Beltana with 8th Reinforcements, 45th Battalion, on 25th November 1916. The troops arrived in England on 29th January 1917 and after some training Frederick joined C Company, 45th Battalion, in France on 1st April 1917.
On 7th June 1917 Frederick was killed in action at the battle for Messines.
There is no known grave for Frederick; he is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial (Panel 27) at Ypres, Belgium.
