John Jackson (Service No 18282) was born in North Sydney, N.S.W. around 1882.

He enlisted when he was 34 years of age. At this time he lived at Bulli, N.S.W., was married, and employed as a draper.  John had served 3 years with the Scottish Rifles in Newcastle, N.S.W.

When John embarked from Sydney on 2nd August 1917, with the April 17 Reinforcements, on HMAT A28 Miltiades, he was leaving behind his wife Myra and daughter Amy. 

John arrived in Britain on 2nd October 1917 and was posted to 5th Field Company Engineers.  While at Parkhouse camp he became ill and was admitted to No 3 Medical Hut.  At 9:05am on 30th October 1917, John died of heart failure, having never seeing active service.  He was buried with full military honours at Tidworth Military Cemetery Row C, Grave 289.
