Thomas Irvine (Service No 5129) was born in Kiama, N.S.W. and attended Wattamolla Public School, just south of Sydney.

Thomas enlisted when he was 22 years of age.  At this time he was single, working as a labourer, and  living at Kangaroo Valley, N.S.W.

Thomas embarked on HMAT SS Makarini from Sydney on 1st April 1916 with the 16th Reinforcements, 1st Battalion.

Thomas arrived in Egypt on 2nd May 1916 and was sent to France straight away.  He arrived in France on 20th May 1916.  Only weeks later, sometime between the 22nd and 25th July 1916, while fighting at the Somme, Thomas was killed in action.  There are no details of his death recorded and he has no known grave.

Thomas is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux, France.
