William George Edwards
William Edwards (Service No 5082) was born in Wollongong, N.S.W. around 1889.
William enlisted when he was 26 years old; he was single, worked as a farrier, and lived in Wollongong.
He embarked Sydney on board HMAT A16 Star of Victoria with 16th Reinforcements, 13th Battalion, on 31st March 1916. The troops arrived in Egypt and William was sent on to France with B Company, 13th Battalion soon after.
William was engaged in his first battle, for Mouquet Farm, when he was killed by an exploding shell.
There is no known grave for William; he is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneaux, France.
