Abram enlisted when he was 21 years of age; he was single and worked as a labourer at that time.  However, NSW Birth Records show that Abram was born in 1899, so he was actually 16 years old at enlistment.

Abram embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT A68 Anchises with 31st Battalion, on 14th March 1916.  Soon after arriving in Egypt, on 21st April, Abram was admitted to hospital suffering from diphtheria, and released on 30th April 1916.

Abram was then sent on to England, arriving on 2nd August 1916.  After training he was sent to France on 26th December 1916.  He was again admitted to hospital sick on 2nd January 1917 and finally arrived at his unit on 10th February 1917.

Abram was wounded in action only 3 days later, on 13th February, when he received gun shot wounds to his leg and thigh.  After treatment he returned to his unit on 13th May 1918.  On 13th August 1918 he was admitted to hospital with influenza.  In December 1918 he was repatriated to Australia and invalided out of the Army on 17th April 1919.

On 4th December 1927 he married Olga Jarrett at Bulli,N.S.W.  Abram & Olga had 4 children and Abram worked as a bricklayer.

Abram died in 1982, at the age of 83.
