Thomas Stanley Sproule
Thomas Sproule (Service No 2704) was born at Woodbrook, Jamberoo near Kiama, N.S.W. in 1894. He was the eldest of three brothers to enlist.
Thomas enlisted when he was 23 years old. He was single and working as a farmer at Jambaroo. Thomas and his brother David had enlisted on the same day.
Thomas and David both embarked from Sdyeny on HMAT A24 Benalla with 5th Reinforcement, 37th Battalion on 9th November 1916.
After training in England Thomas was sent to France, arriving on 8th May 1917. Sadly he was killed in action at the battle for Messines in Belgium, between 7th and 9th June 1917. Thomas was buried at the time of his death, but the location of his grave has been lost.
Thomas is commemorated on The Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, Belgium.
