Private Leslie Frew (Service no. 50314) was born in Bulli on 26th March, 1899. He spent four years in the Senior Cadets and the CMF and on 18th October, 1915 Leslie enlisted as an 18 year old, single Wheeler but on 25th November, 1915 was discharged for being underage. It is not clear if family or the Army found him out.

He tried again in November 1917 and Leslie finally embarked on HMAT A18 Wiltshire on 10th June, 1918 and saw service in Egypt with the Engineer Corps. He returned to Australia in August 1919 and was discharged on 25th August, 1919.

On 7th February, 1921 Leslie married Amelia Mathews in Woonona.
