Private William McIntosh (Service no. 1968) was born in Wollongong circa 1894. At the time of enlistment he was a single 21 year old carpenter, who had spent three years in 37th Infantry CMF becoming a Lieutenant. He embarked on HMAT A69 Warilda with 3rd Reinforcements 45th Battalion on 22nd May, 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and was promoted to Sergeant but reverted to Private on two occasions.

On 21st November, 1916 he was wounded in action receiving serious gun shot wounds to his left leg. He was evacuated to hospital and after a lengthy treatment was returned to Australia in October 1917. He was discharged medically unfit on 11th February, 1918.

William Mcintosh is remembered on the Wollongong Presbyterian Church Roll of Honour.
