Arthur Veigel was born circa 1896 in Bulli. At the time of enlistment he was a single 19 year old hairdresser. He embarked on HMAT A20 Hororata with 5th Reinforcements on 10th April, 1915. He arrived on Gallipoli on 13th July, 1915 with A coy 2nd Battalion and was wounded in action on 22nd August, a minor wound only. He was evacuated from Gallipoli ill and returned to Australia in August 1916 and discharged medically unfit due to his epilepsy.

In 1917, Arthur married Alice Prince.

On 8th June, 1917 Arthur Frederick Frew enlisted in the AIF. He is described as a single 21 year old labourer listing his grandfather Harry Frew as next of kin. He states he had served with the 37th Infantry CMF.

Arthur Frew embarked on HMAT A16 Port Melbourne on 16th July, 1917 with 8th Reinforcements 33rd Battalion. He was returned to Australia in December 1917 and discharged medically unfit on 20th March, 1918 due to epilepsy. He died in 1920.

A letter on his file from his wife Alice Veigel sorts out the confusion when she applies for a pension which was granted due to Arthur Veigal (Service nos. 2019 and 2075) and Arthur Frew (Service no. 3293) being the same person.
