Jan Hanna writes: Frances (Frank) Powell (Service No. 4519) was born in 1895.  Frank enlisted 11 January 1916 and embarked from Sydney on HMAT Nestor A71 on 9 April 1916.

He was injured during the war and returned to live in Wollongong.  In an article in the South Coast Times 13 June 1919 "..the mayors of North Illawarra and Central Illawarra took part in a warm welcome home to Ptes Bodimeade and Frank Powell ....Pte Powell is the third of the family in active service".  F.E.Powell is remembered on the Wollongong War Memoral.

He died a few years after returning from the war in an accident while working at home.  His brothers Edwin and Frederick also served in the war.  Their father Frederick Henry Powell was the Station Master at Wollongong Railway Station.
