Eric Fackender (Service No 1126) was born in Unandera around 1894. He grew up in the area and attended Unanderra Public School.

Eric was working as an electrical mechanic and was 22 years old and single when he enlisted.

He embarked from Melbourne with his unit on RMS Orontes on 17th January, 1917.

On arrival in England he was sent to Aircraft Park at Ascot. As a mechanic, Eric's skills were very useful to the new Australian Flying Corps and he served with them for the duration of the war.

He returned to Australia on 2nd September, 1919 and was discharged from the AIF on 10th October 1919.

In 1925 Eric married Minnie Craig.

Eric died in 1973 in Wagga.
