Private Thomas Vaughan (service no. 2093) was born in Mount Kembla. He eventually moved to Griffith and worked as an orchardist, but his recorded state he enlisted in Lithgow. As a young man he spent four years in the Senior Cadets.

He embarked on HMAT A62 Wandilla on 5th February, 1916 with 14th Reinforcements 6th Light Horse Regiment. On arrival in Egypt he was transferred to the 14th Field Artillery and saw service on the Western Front with them.

On 11th November, 1917 he was promoted to Corporal.

On 8th May, 1918 he was wounded in action, but the wound was slight and he remained on duty.

Thomas was promoted to Sergeant on 29th December, 1918 and returned to Australia in April 1919. He was discharged from the AIF on 23rd August, 1919.

The Government Gazette dated 11th December, 1918 reads:

"His Majesty the King has been graciously pleased to approve of the award of the Military Medal for bravery in the field to the undermentioned No. 2093 Corporal Thomas Vaughan".

Thomas married Edna Clift on 28th April, 1926. Thomas had a brother James Vaughn who served in the Middle East.

Thomas died aged 43.
