William Haddow
Private William Haddow (Service no. 7140) was born in Mount Kembla.
At the time of enlistment he was an 18 year old butcher. He embarked on HMAT A14 Euripides with 21st Reinforcements, 17th Battalion on 31st October, 1917. He saw service on the Western Front, arriving in France in time to join the heavy fighting to stop the German breakthrough. At this time he was just 19. His file indicates a number of absences late in 1918 and this may have been due to a girl. On 26th July, 1919 he married Isobel Jensen, he was 20 and she was 17.
They returned to Australia in January 1920 and he was discharged medically unfit from the AIF on 21st June, 1920.
William died in 1958.
William had a brother, John Haddow (Service no. 109) who also served with A Company 35th Battalion and was wounded twice.
