Private Cyril Franklin (Service no. 2687) was born in Unanderra circa 1890 and who later worked as a labourer prior to enlistment.

He embarked on HMAT A24 Benalla on 9th November, 1916 with the 38th Battalion. Cyril saw service on the Western Front until 4th October, 1917 when he was seriously wounded in action. He received wounds to his chest, arm, eye and knee. Records state he was afflicted with a gunshot wound but the spread of injury indicates it could have been a shrapnel injury.

He was returned to Australia in February 1918 and discharged medically unfit on 30th April, 1918. It is unknown what happened to Cyril after he was discharged from the Army.

His father Walter Franklin also served.
