Bruce Vaughn Broughton Foster
Bruce Foster was born in Kent, England, and arrived in Australia in August 1911. He was living and working in the Nowra area of N.S.W. and was a single 20 year old labourer from Nowra when he joined the Waratah March.
He embarked from Sydey on board HMAT A55 Kyarra with 1st Battalion, 18th Reinforcement on 3rd June 1916. He arrived in England on 3rd August 1916 and joined A Company in France on 25th September 1917.
Bruce was promoted to Corporal on 21st January 1917.
On 4th Ocboter 1917, Bruce was wounded in action at Passchendaele and evacuated to hospital in England for treatment of a gun shot wound to his left hand. He was repatriated to Australia in March 1918 and discharged, medically unfit, on 9th October 1918.
On 10th December 1922 he married Ethel Hickey and in 1940 they were living in South Australia.
Bruce enlisted for service in World War II on 26th June 1940 (Service No S64) and served as Staff Sergeant with 2ITD 3rd Training battalion until 3rd February 1943.
Bruce died in Brisbane in 1984. His service is commemorated on the Nowra Post Office and Nowra Showground Rolls of Honour.
