Patrick Ryan (Service No 3916) was born in Albion Park about 1883 and worked as a miner before enlisting.  Patrick enlisted at Holsworthy, NSW, when he was 32 years old. He was single and nominated his sister Miss Margaret Ryan of Kembla Heights as his next of kin.

Patrick embarked from Sydney with his Unit, the 9th Reinforcement, 19th Battalion, on HMAT A54 Runic, on 20 January, 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and survived the war.

Patrick returned to Australia in January 1919, and was discharged from the AIF, medically unfit, on 27th April, 1919.

Later In 1919 he married Margaret Rapley and together they raised a family in Mount Kembla until his death. 

A newspaper article dated 7th September, 1937 advised that Patrick Ryan was injured at the Mount Kembla Mine when he was run over by a skip. He was admitted to Wollongong hospital with a severe leg injury.

Patrick died at Kembla Heights in 1939.

An inquest was held on 4th March 1939 into his death.
