George Ball (Service No 3696), was born in Kiama, N.S.W.

The Ball family took up farming in the Casino, N.S.W., area around 1906.

At enlistment, he was single, 25 years old, worked as a farmer and had served 3 years with the Senior Cadets. George embarked from Brisbane, on HMAT A50 Itonus, with 9th Battalion, 12th Reinforcement, on 30th December 1915. On arrival in Egypt, he was transferred to 49th Battalion, on 29th February 1916. George arrived in France on 12th June 1916, and saw service on the Somme, until he was wounded in action on 5th September 1916. He was evacuated to hospital for treatment of shrapnel wounds to his back, shoulder and side, returning to duty on 25th April 1917.

On 30th October 1917, George was promoted to Lance Corporal. On 7th May 1918, he was wounded a second time and evacuated to hospital for treatment. George was treated for a severe gun shot wound to his right thigh. This ended his active service and a long recovery began. He was repatriated to Australia in March 1919, and received treatment in hospital in Australia, before being discharged with a pension on 22nd January 1921.

On 30th May 1922, George married Helena Costello, and they had 3 children.

George died in Queensland in 1957, and is buried in Casino Cemetery, Casino, N.S.W.

George's brother Charles Ball (Service No 3551), also served.
