Edward Clifford (Service No N38374) was born in Dapto, N.S.W., on 17 January 1894, to Joseph and Mary Clifford.

At enlistment, Edward was 22 years old and worked as a fisherman.

He enlisted on 11 September 1916 and joined the 12th Light Horse Reinforcement, as did his brother,Thomas Clifford.

Edward did not get the chance to embark as he fell gravely ill with meningitis.

Edward Clifford died on 9 October 1916, at Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, N.S.W.

Edward is buried in St Luke's Cemetery, Brownsville,  N.S.W., and he is commemorated on the Roll of Honour, Panel 186, in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
