Alexander Longmuir (Service No 60473) was born in Dunedin, New Zealand.  He married Gertrude Andrew in 1902 and they raised a family of 6 children.

At enlistment Alexander was 41 years old, trained and worked as a school teacher, and he and Gertrude had 5 children.  At some time in his career, before he enlisted, Alexander appears to have been a teacher at Corrimal Public School, N.S.W.

He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A41 Bakara with NSW Reinforcment 17 on 4th September 1918 and after he arrived in England, he was posted as Sergeant to 2nd Battalion on 14th November 1918.

Alexander was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 30th September 1919.  He & his family seem to have been living in Victoria after the war.

Alexander died in 1948; his service is commemorated on the Corrimal Public School Roll of Honour, along with the names of 4 other teachers who served.
