Joseph William Prescott (Service No 5437), was born in Ipswich, Queensland.

At enlistment, he stated he was single, 24 years old and worked as a miner. Joseph embarked on HMAT A18 Wiltshire, with the 19th Battalion, 14th Reinforcement, on 22nd August 1916. He arrived in England on 13th October 1916, joining 19th Battalion in France, on 18th December 1916. Joseph saw service on the Western Front without any wounding recorded.

He was granted leave from 23rd May 1919 until 30th October 1919, during which time he married Annie Southall, on 12th August 1919. Annie returned to Australia with Joseph in January 1920, and he was discharged on 2nd April 1920.

Joseph died in Raymond Terrace, N.S.W., in 1957.

He is commemorated for his service on the Helensburgh Methodist Church Roll of Honour.

 Joseph's brother, Reuben Prescott (Service No 1476), also served.
