Austin John Croft Hunter (Service No 3567A) was born in Northumberland, England and arrived in Australia with his family in November 1912.

At enlistment he was 21 years old, single, worked as a wheeler and lived in Woonona, N.S.W.

Austin embarked on HMAT A60 Aeneas with the 20th Battalion, 8th Reinforcement, on 20th December 1915. He disembarked in Egypt and on 3rd March 1916 was transferred to the 5th Pioneers. Austin then went to France, arriving on 25th June 1916. He saw service on the Western Front and has no wounding on file. Austin was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged on 26th July 1919.

On 19th February 1921, Austin married Mary Foster in Bulli, N.S.W.

Austin died in 1980 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.

He is commemorated for his service on the Bulli Woonona War Memorial.

Austin's brother Robert Hunter (Service No 13787) and his father Edward Hunter (Service No 1419), also served.
