Dave McLean (Service No 19910) was born in Newcastle, N.S.W., around 1889.

At enlistment he was 28 years old, single and worked as a horse trainer. Dave listed his sister Mary, of Port Kembla, N.S.W., as his next of kin.

Dave embarked from Melbourne on HMAT A71 Nestor with the August 1917 Reinforcements on 21st November 1917. He arrived in Egypt on 18th December 1917 and was sent to France on 29th January 1918. Dave joined the 4th Field Company Engineers in the field on 21st August 1918. He was returned to Australia in April 1919 and discharged medically unfit with enteritis on 22nd September 1919.
