John Williams (Service no 2858) was born in Millom Havesigg, England.

At the time of enlistment John was single, 26 years of age, employed as a miner and resided in Helensburgh, NSW.

John embarked on HMAT A14 - Euripides with the 20th Battalion, 6th Reinforcements on 2 November 1915.  He arrived in Egypt in December 1915 and was transferred to the 5th Australian Pioneers Battalion on 3 March 1916.

John arrived in France on 25 June 1916 and served with the Pioneers on the Western Front.  On 5 April 1917 he was promoted to Lance Corporal and then to Corporal on 7 December 1917. 

John returned to Australia in February 1919 and was discharged on 18 May 1919.

On 29 October 1919, John married Emily Butt in Helensburgh, NSW.

John died in 1952 and is buried in Woronora Cemetery.
