Charles Horner (Service No 2304) was born in Leicestershire, England around 1881.

Charles enlisted at the age of 36; he was single and worked as a labourer, and lived at Port Kembla near Wollongong, N.S.W.  He nominated his sister, Lizzie Horner, who lived in England, as his next of kin.

He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A15 Port Sydney with 12th Light Horse Regiment, 18th Reinforcement on 9th May 1917.

Charles arrived in Egypt on 20th June 1917 and joined 37th Company of the Divisional train on 19th August 1917.  He saw service in Egypt and the Middle East and returned to Australia in July 1919.

Charles was discharged from the AIF on 17th September 1919.
