James McDonald (Service no 916) was born in Comago Co Mayo, Ireland in 1884.

James arrived in Australia in 1912 and when he enlisted he was single, 31 years of age, employed as a miner and resided in Scarborough, NSW.

James embarked on HMAT A40 - Ceramic with the 18th Battalion, C Company on 25 June 1915.  He arrived in Egypt soon after and was sent to Gallipoli, Turkey in early August.

James was listed as missing believed killed in action between 22 and 25 August 1915.  This was confirmed at the Court of Enquiry in July 1916.

James has no known grave and is remembered on the Australian Memorial at Lone Pine.

His next of kin, father, Pat and mother, Bridget were awarded a pension in 1917.
