Albert Hilton Connolly (Service No 2543), was born in Woonona, N.S.W., around 1890.

In 1914, he married Mary Leonard in Sydney, N.S.W.

At enlistment he was 26 years old, married and worked as a driller.

Albert embarked on HMAT A24 Benalla, with the 38th Battalion, 5th Reinforcement, on 9th November 1916. He arrived in England on 9th January 1917 and joined the 38th Battalion in France, on 22nd May 1917. Albert saw service on the Western Front.

On 1st October 1918, he was wounded in action, in a gas attack and was evacuated to hospital for treatment. Albert was returned to Australia in June 1919 and discharged on 4th September 1919.

Albert died in 1956, and is buried in Rookwood Cemetery, Rookwood, N.S.W.

Albert's brother, Samuel Connolly (Service No 56968) also served.
