Arthur Hill (Service No 5381) was born in Copperfield, Qld.  In 1904 he married Jane Moore.

At enlistment Arthur was 32 years old, worked as a miner and he lived with his wife and children at Woonona, N.S.W.  He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT A71 Nestor with 13th Battalion, 17th Reinforcement on 9th April 1916.  Whilst on board he was transferred to 45th Battalion.

He arrived in France on 14th June 1916 and joined 45th Battalion in the field on 19th July 1916.

Arthur was promoted to Lance Corporal on 4th September 1916.  On 1st May 1917 he was promoted to Corporal, then made Sergeant on 15th May 1918.

Arthur was returned to Australia in August 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 1st October 1919.

After the war he returned to work in the mines, eventually becoming a mine deputy.

Arthur died in Bulli and is buried in Bulli Cemetery.  His service is commemorated on the Bulli-Woonona War Memorial.
