Reginald John James Holmes
Reginald Holmes (Service No 1397) was born in Sydney.
At enlistment Reginald was single, 21 years old, worked as a farrier, and lived in Dapto, N.S.W. He had served 2 years with the Cadets and 2 years with the Light Horse Militia.
Reginald embarked from Sydney on SS Hawkes Bay with 7th Light Horse Regimen, 11th Reinforcement on 23rd October 1915. He arrived in Egypt in December 1915 and was promoted to shoeing smith on 14th February 1916.
He saw service in Egypt and the Middle East, and was promoted to Corporal on 26th October 1918. In November 1918 he went to Gallipoli with the special mission.
Reginald was returned to Australia in July 1919 and discharged from the AIF on 26th September 1919.
In 1925 he married Alma Judd in Wollongong, N.S.W. and the couple raised 2 children.
Reginald died in Bulli in 1970; his service is commemorated on the Dapto Public School Honour Roll & the Dapto War Memorial.
